What can we learn about people from their garbage?
Researchers examining urban garbage hope to glean information about people’s buying, eating, working, and other social habits. Often written records of the past have been lost or have not recorded much of the day-to-day life that people took for granted, urban archaeologists explain.
What does our garbage reveal about us?
By itself, refuse can show us what people are eating, what people are wasting, and what people are reusing. However, archaeologists also relate current events—such as food shortages—to their data to see how different stressors affect habits in regards to refuse!
